A Message from the President, Glenn Stephens

2:53pm January 19, 2010 | Baden Pratt

On behalf of the new Management Committee, welcome to the 2010 season – the 90th anniversary of the Club (since it reformed after World War l) and one which will again present enormous anticipation and challenges.
Season 2010 will see the Club field seven teams and following our success with six teams participating in finals in 2009, we again believe we have the player group to build on the 2009 successes. With E and H Grades premierships and the A League playing in consecutive grand finals, there is the required momentum to have continued success in 2010.
On field in 2010, Scott Misich has been re appointed Head Coach and the Club is positive Scott will use the previous two seasons runners up results to spur us to win our first flag since 2003. Shane Kiely (A reserves) and Kevin Murphy Senior Colts Coach head the other A Grade coaching roles. The third senior team will again be under the stewardship of premiership coach Tully Misich and the 4’s will see the return of Neville Haywood to coaching at North Fremantle. Trent Barrett will again coach the H Grade and will be out to win back-to-back premierships in 2010.
As one of the oldest clubs in WA football, the Club will be holding a number of events in 2010 to commemorate its 90 years as an amateur club and we invite all present and past members/supporters to be part of our club this season.
On behalf of the committee I hope to see you down at “The Gil” regularly in 2010 and know you will enjoy community football at its best.

Maggie Training Starts January 12, 2010

9:01pm December 09, 2009 | Baden Pratt

Former East Fremantle and Claremont footballer, Scott Misich, has been re-appointed as Club Coach of the North Fremantle Amateur Football Club for the 2010 season. Misich, who has won a Colin Jamieson Medal for fairest and best in a grand final, will be in his fifth season as a coach at North Fremantle. He took the A Grade Colts to a Premiership win and has had North Fremantle’s senior A Grade team in the past two Grand Finals. He said official training would begin at the club on January 12, 2010. Three scratch matches had already been arranged with Rockingham, Wesley Curtin and University. The first game of the season is scheduled for April 10. A club legend, Shane “Shovel” Keily has been chosen as coach of the club’s A Reserve team for the second year in a row. Trent Barrett was named as H Grade coach. Negotiations are continuing over the appointments of four coaches (E Grade, E Reserves, Phil Scott A Grade colts and the second Colts team). More than 50 players attended the Annual General Meeting of the club in the Stan Whipp Hall at Gilbert Fraser Reserve this week to hear the coaching staff announced. The hierarchy of the club was maintained with Ross McCaffrey being re-elected Patron, Glenn Stephens re-elected President, Andrew Maiorana as vice-President, Baden Pratt (Secretary), Daniel Hunt (Asst. Secretary), Paul Smith (Treasurer), Peter Grosser (Delegate), Robert Looby (Registrar), Clint Wiltshire (Social Secretary), Tom Beange and Jackson Jones (Football Development Officers), Ron Saxon (Ground Manager), and committee members Corry Grosser, Michael Valentine, and Trent and Marnie Barrett.

Calling all coaches

1:56am October 21, 2009 | Baden Pratt

Expressions of interest are called for anybody in the club wishing to coach, or assist with coaching, either next season or in the future. Across our seven teams and in the district there are many opportunities for people to get involved. An example is the work of Chris "Plugger" Patroni and yong Judgy with the way they assisted Tully Misich in 2009. We want people to come forward to help the club. Our biggest headache at the moment is finding coaching staff for the Colts. It is a great opportunity for people to put up their hand. If you think you want to coach in the future you need to be a Level One Accredited umpire so we need to know who is interested to plan the opportunity to attend a class in 2010.

Season 2009 Brings Two Flags, More Finals Action

11:08pm September 30, 2009 | hacked by Anchi Ramsyi a.k.a 4nth!p4ssw0rd

Another big year for North Freo in 2009 saw six of our seven sides experience finals action, with Tully's E Grade and Hitchy & Trent's H Grade bringing home premiership flags. A Grade took their season all the way to the Grand Final at Medibank Stadium, going down in a hard fought match against North Beach.

The successes of our club this year is a testament to the combined efforts of the Maggies coaching staff, the committee, trainers, all volunteers and the level of commitment of the players. As with each season, there is more to look forward to next year and we hope to see everyone there.

President Glenn Stephens 2009 message

11:44am April 06, 2009 | Baden Pratt

From the President

On behalf of the Management Committee welcome to the 2009 season and no doubt it will be one of enormous anticipation given the exceptional performance of all teams given their finals efforts in 2008.

The 2008 season saw all of our seven teams playing finals with the lowest result being preliminary finals for the 3’s and 4’s.Five teams made the grand finals and the Phil Scott Colts made it back to back premierships. Again in 2008 (as was the case in 2007) both our Colts teams played in Grand Finals and further emphasised the strong future of the club. In 2008, we also won the G Grade final and came within 7 points of the A league premiership but had to settle for runners up as did the A Reserves.

In 2009, we will again enter the season with five senior sides and two colts teams which will mean each week we will see 160 players put on the North Fremantle colours.

On the field, Scott Misich has been re appointed as A Grade coach and brings with him both the passion and experience to go one better in 2009. He will be ably supported by Shane Kiely (A Reserves) with Dan Prigmore again leading the Phil Scott Colts and rookie coach Stephen Pratt taking over the Laurie Keene Colts. The 3’s will be led by experienced coach Tully Misich and the 4’s sees the debut of Victorian Sean Brereton.

2009 represents 88 years as an amateur club for North Fremantle and as one of the oldest amateur clubs in WA, we will be recognising a number of events throughout the year. On behalf of the committee we hope to see you down at the club during the up coming season to enjoy the continued success that we are having.

Easter at Gilbert Fraser Reserve with the Country Fire Brigade Championships

10:39pm March 29, 2009 | Baden Pratt

On Easter Saturday Gilbert Fraser Reserve will be a hive of activity with hundreds of firemen from across Western Australia competing in the annual State Country Fire Brigade Championships. Our club has responsibility for running all the drink and food outlets on the Saturday. Anybody interested should contact Baden Pratt ASAP. It is a very interesting day for those who have never volunteered. Not only is the event a great spectacle, there is a lot of fun and involvement for those who come along to help. This is the club's biggest fundraiser for the year and many hands on deck are required. You don't have to work all day. We try to have morning and afternoon shifts, but it all depends on the numbers of people who turn up to help.

Scratch matches an opportunity for all

10:36pm March 29, 2009 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle have now played two scratch matches - against South Mandurah and Wesley Curtin. It has been a great opportunity to have good hit outs before the season begins. Next Saturday we play at home starting with the Colts about 10am. It will be the last time we will have a chance to play before the season begins on April 18. There will be no matches over Easter giving a week's break before the season opener.

Pay your fees and qualify for the list of names

10:32pm March 29, 2009 | Baden Pratt

OK all. It's time to pay your fees. For those who pay there is a big bonus and the list for those wanting the Gold Pass will go around shortly. Not financial? No Gold Pass! All Colts are expected to be financial before the first game. The cost is $100. Only financial members will receive the Adopt a Colt club shirts so make a move now to pay up front. By paying early you help the club tremendously because we have loads of bills to pay early in the season - seven sets of new jumpers, new footballs, carpeting the clubrooms, replacing the roofing on the back of the grandstand and that's just for starters. Become a top clubman and help us to help you by paying early.

Players' Tea set for Thursday, April 16

10:29pm March 29, 2009 | Baden Pratt

The club's traditional pre opening round match players' tea will be held at the Stan Whipp Hall at Gilbert Fraser Reserve on Thursday, April 16. All seven grade teams will be announced, along with playing venues. All players, members and officials are invited to attend the event which is free. Thanks to Ron Saxon the players will feast on roast beef, rolls and a selection of pasta, coleslaw etc.

North Fremantle honour former players on Anzac Day

10:26pm March 29, 2009 | Baden Pratt

The North Fremantle Amateur Football Club will march in this year's Anzac Day parade through the streets of Fremantle. The club lost 11 players in World War 1, two in World War 11 and Brian Bielken in the Vietnam War. For the first time, both the South Fremantle Football Club and the East Fremantle Football Club will march in the parade. The club will lay a wreathe on the Monument Hill Memorial during the Dawn Service on Anzac Day. Stroct dress codes will apply at this year's march. All club members who wish to take part will gather on the Fremantle Esplanade and must be dressed in shoes (no thongs), dress trousers (no shorts or board shorts), and club shirts or overseas travel outfits worn to The Western Front last year. A talk on our footballers and Anzac Day will be delivered at the Stan Whipp Hall, Gilbert Fraser Reserve on Thursday, April 23. Training will be restricted that night because the Country Fire Brigade Championships will be being set up on the ground for the Easter weekend.

Hell for Leather book launch on September 29

The book, Hell for Leather, The Forgotten Footballers of North Fremantle, will be launched at the club on the Monday holiday of the September long weekend at 2pm. The book, written and compiled by Baden Pratt, is 100 pages and tells the stories of the 11 North Fremantle FOotball Club members killed in World War I. The book has been written to coincide with the overseas trip by 32 members of the club who leave on October 11 to visit the gravesites and memorials of nine of the players killed on The Western Front. All club members are welcome to attend the launch. This is the second book on the club. The Mighty Maggies of Gilbert Fraser Reserve 1895-2006 also will be on sale.

G Grade win Grand Final, three A's in Grand Finals

10:28pm September 13, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle's G Grade side won the 2008 premiership with a 10-point victory over Willeton. The win under the guidance of super coach Adam Calginari is a great result for a long and hard season. Unfortunately, the Laurie Keene Colts could not go on with their dramatic climb into the finals. The team went down to North Beach in today's Grand Final. The Colts had come from sixth place to make the last game in September - a great effort from a very young bunch of players - 18 of whom can play again next season. In the other vital game the Maggies were successful against North Beach at Medibank Private (the old Leederville Oval) to live to fight against Trinity Aquinas in the 2008 Grand Final. It means all North Fremantle A Grade teams will compete in Grand Finals next weekend at the same ground - the Phil Scott A Grade Colts, the Reserves and the A Grade.

Seven Sides Still Alive

12:55am August 31, 2008 | Baden Pratt

In an amazing club performance the Mighty Maggies still have all seven teams alive in the final round series. All the lower grade finals began a week before the A Grade finals. Today the Laurie Keene D Grade Colts won their first semi-final and now progress to next Saturday's Preliminary Final. The G Grade won their second semi final by two points and progress to the Grand Final in a fortnight. The E Grade were beaten in the second semi final and have to play in a preliminary final next Saturday. The E Reserves won their match and now play a preliminary final next Saturday. Both the A Grade and A Colts did not play today because they finished on top of their respective ladders. The A Reserves, however, had a great win against North Beach at North Beach and now meet Trinity Aquinas in the second semi final next Saturday at Gilbert Fraser Reserve.

Historical Reunion at Mighty Maggies

12:44am August 31, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The 30th year reunion of the 1978 Colts winning team will take place at Gilbert Fraser Reserve next Saturday. Many luminaries will attend, such as Ross McCaffrey, Keith Bridle, Stan Whipp, Peter Grosser and many other Life Members. There will be three games at Gilbert Fraser Reserve beginning with the A Colts at 10.45 in a Second Semi Final. Then the North A Reserves play a do-or-die first semi final, followed by the A Grade in a second semi final clash with North Beach. It will be a big, big day at the Gil. Be there.

Maggies Have Seven Wins

12:00am July 13, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The Mighty Maggies had another seven wins this weekend. The A Grade downed final five hopes Stirling in a hard-fought game at Gilbert Fraser Reserve to win by almost five goals. The win was very important because second placed Wesley Curtin were beaten by Scarborough on the last kick of the day giving the Maggies a two game buffer on top of the table. Best players for North Fremantle were Corey Phipps, Peter Oliver, Brad Cox, Daniel Starr. The A Reserves had an excellent win and both Colts teams had runaway wins - the Phil Scott A Colts winning by 14 goals and the Laurie Keene D Colts winning by 19 goals against Wesley Curtin who were two places above them on the ladder. The G Grade had a good win under lights at Gilbert Fraser Reserve this evening and both E Grade teams won against Wesley Curtin at Curtin's SOuth Oval.

Masquerade Ball a Huge Success

11:52am July 06, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The club's Masquerade Ball was a huge success with about 140 members and partners enjoying the food, drinks and music. Congratulations to Clint Wiltshire and his helpers for a great effort. President Paul Farrell welcomed the guests and the night got underway. Stars of the evening were James Doogue (he won almost everything), Josh de Buelle (the beau of the Ball), Robert Looby (never seen anybody doing the Pride of Erin before to punk rock music), Travis Miles (another winner on the night), and, of course, all the women. They were absolutely fabulous and made the evening with their poise, clothes, dancing and adding that edge of excitement. Well done all round, the club was the big winner. PICTURES WILL BE DOWNLLOADED LATER.

Another Seven Wins - 3rd Time in a Year

11:45am July 06, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The Maggies had another successful weekend with all seven grades notching victories, for the third time this season. The A Grade defeated Whitfords 11.16 to 5.8 at home. The scoreboard shows an easy victory, but Whitfords were desperate all day and took the game right up to the league leaders. Whitfords were hard at the ball, tough in the clashes and showed great passages of play that belies their position on the A Grade ladder. North were struggling to get into the game early and it was only two late goals into the breeze in the second quarter that gave them a half time lead of just 13 points. Kicking with the breeze in the third term the Maggies dominated but poor kicking at goal kept Whitfords in the game. The football was fast and furious and the weather conditions, strong wind, some rain, hampered the skills. The ground also was muddy in some sections. North help Whitfords to just three points in the final term and scored several goals into a strong breeze. All teams are now in the top five.

Maggies win Five, draw one, lose one

10:14pm June 29, 2008 | Baden Pratt

Congratulations all round this weekend with all teams performing their best after our thinnest selection night of the season. The A Grade fought back from three goals down at the start of the third quarter to win by 35 points against Wembley at Wembley, the A Reserves held Wembly goalless (Wembley are second on the ladder), both E Grade teams won and the G Grade had a great draw. The A colts thrashed Wembley and the Laurie Keene Colts played manfully but were just short against leaders Collegians.

11:15pm June 21, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle's A Grade finished the First Round of the competition with an excellent win over University at McGillvray Reserve to hold on to top spot on the ladder. In a unique day six games were played at McGillvray so that the University Club could have all their players and officials at the ground for a Ladies' Day. The first three quarters were hard fought with North clinging to a few points lead at three quarter time. However, with the aid of a strong breeze, the Maggies ran away winning by about five goals. The A Reserve grade also lost as did both E Grade teams, a big surprise. However, the Colts teams both had good wins, the Phil Scott A Colts having a great tussle with University until three quarter time when, again with the wind, the team ran away. The G Grade were playing at night-time at home and these results are not through, nor the official scores from all games.

Maggies go to top of A Grade

1:10am June 08, 2008 | Baden Pratt

IN a great win, North Fremantle's A Grade toppled North Beach at North Beach to go to the top of the ladder. With about five minutes to play North Fremantle had kicked 18 goals to North Beach's eight goals. It was a great team effort with Minervini kicking nine goals, both Halls playing well and other good games from Peter Oliver, Daniel Staff, Daniel Bratovic, Brad Wedgwood. The ruck was led brilliantly by big Coxie playing his first A Grade game and Dickinson, in the backline, continued to show what a wonderful pick-up he is with another solid display. He is a real bonus to our club. The A Reserves lost by a kick but the Phil Scott Colts came from behind to down North Beach.

North Trio in State Side

10:00am June 03, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle had three players chosen in the WA State side that played Tasmania in Tasmania in the weekend - Brad Wedgwood, Dwayne Lake and Daniel Starr. Wedgwood, an all-Australian from the previous year, was named Captain of the side. Former North Fremantle coach, Wayne Langbourne was again appointed coach of the State side. The WA team won by 11 points 11.10 (76) to 9.11 (65). Wedgwood was solid all day, Starr did well in a back pocket and Lake turned the game when he went into the centre after half time. Wll done, everybody. The State side was Ryan Atkinson - Willetton, Jamie Birrell (VC) - Trinity Aquinas, Michael Cox - Whitford, Adam Edwards - Stirling, Scott Harman - Wesley Curtin, Jackson Harwood - North Beach, Jarrad Heller - Collegians, Scott Horsburgh - Wesley Curtin, Bradley Horsman - Wesley Curtin, Blake Ingersole - Willetton, Simon Jones - University, Dwayne Lake - North Fremantle, Adam Lomax - Fremantle CBC, Tyron Miller - Collegians, Daniel O'Sullivan - Trinity Aquinas
Carl Scarfone - Swan View, Brett Stanford - Wesley Curtin, Daniel Starr - North Fremantle, Jacob Towne - Melville, Bradley Wedgwood (C) - North Fremantle , Tom Willday - Trinity Aquinas, Steve Wood (VC) - University.

All members, supporters and others interested in Australian football are welcome to attend the event as the club's contribution to Heritage Week in Fremantle. The event is FREE.

A Grade Have Good Win

11:35pm May 24, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The A Grade jumped another hurdle in their endeavour to win the 2008 flag by downing Wesley Curtin at home today. Both teams were level (North on top, Wesley third) on points before the game. WC, coached by former South Fremantle champion Marty Atkins, struggled for most of the game against a North Fremantle side that tackled hard, ran hard and controlled the game. Both Colts teams also had wins - the Phil Scott A Grade Colts beat Wesley Curtin by 11 points to remain undefeated after six rounds. It was WC's second loss for the season. The Laurie Keene Colts, playing in their seventh round. beat a dismal Melville by 14 goals at Troy Park. The Maggie Reserves went down by a kick against Wesley Curtin but the verandah at Gilbert Fraser Reserve read like a Who's Who of North with eight players watching on who could claim to have a spot in either the A Grade or Reserves if fit. At the time of going to Press there were not results available for the three other grades.

Another Clean Sweep for Club - 7 wins

2:11am May 18, 2008 | Baden Pratt

For the second time this season North Fremantle won all seven games. The A Grade had a good win over West Coast Cowan (away), the Reserves fell over the line by a single point, the E Reserves and E Grade had good, hard fought wins against arch rivals CBC, the G Grade had a good win and both colts teams won by 18 goals.

Great A Grade Win Celebrates 150 Years of Football

11:46pm May 10, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The Mighty Maggies won a classic match against arch rival Trinity Aquinas today. NF 11.16 (82) TA 12.3 (75). They came from behind to kick four goals into the breeze in the final quarter and win by seven points. Coach Scott Misich inspired the team with a magnificent three-quarter time address. Good players were Dickinson, Wedgwood, Carter. The club had another six wins with only the A Reserve going down, by seven points, to the ladder leader Trinity Aquinas. The West coast Eagles Phil Scott Colts were again impressive beating TA's by eight goals while the West Coast Eagles Laurie Keene Colts did very well away to Kingsley to win by seven points. Fremantle Docker Shaun McManus tossed the coin before the game and spoke to officials of both teams at a half time afternoon tea.

Anzac Day March Successful

2:13am April 27, 2008 | Baden Pratt

A total of 27 club members took part in the Anzac Day march through the streets of Fremantle. This followed 15 others, mainly Colts, turning out for the Dawn Service at Fremantle's Monument Hill. Life Members Peter Grosser, Simon Melville, Ray Killeen and Baden Pratt marched with the Colts. Club Treasurer Paul Smith was another. The banner containing the names of our World War l (11 players) and World War ll (nine) was carried by Craig Looby and Travis Miles. The club received a huge round of applause from many in the very big crowd. Earlier Wes French and Sam Buhagiar laid a wreathe at the Dawn Service on behalf of the club.

Club Record - Seven Games, Seven Wins

2:07am April 27, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The NFAFC set a club record today with seven wins from seven grades, the first time in the history of the Mighty Maggies. The A Grade travelled to Whitfords for an important clash that was played in fluky wind conditions. North kicked 11 goals 7 points to Whitfords 4 goals 10 points, a 39 point victory. Six players contributed to the goals, led by Ben Carter with four and Cameron Hall with three. The A Reserves held off a strong challenge to win by just three points, but all other grades had big wins, including the two Colts teams.

Maggies Kick Off With a Win

11:55pm April 19, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle's A Grade had a very good win in the opening fixture of the season against Wembley at Gilbert Fraser Reserve 12.13 (85) to 7.5 (47). It was a desperately fought game with North Fremantle in front for most of the game until Wembley, in the first 10 minutes of the final quarter, hit the front into a strong breeze. However, the Maggie potential swung into play and the next seven goals were scored with the aid of a strong breeze. There were many good players for the Maggies and it was a great team effort given the challenge Wembley launched at the start of the final quarter. Wembley appeared to be struggling throughout as North Fremantle raced to a six goal to one lead at half time. However, Wembley kicked four goals with the breeze and suddenly there was nothing in the difference. A quick last quarter goal and Wembley were suddenly looming as a big threat. However, the wind was a consequence and North fought back to win.
The A Reserve were not as lucky going down by five goals. The A Colts had a grand win with strength all over the oval. The E grades both won and as this goes to Press the G Grade are locked in battle at Gilbert Fraser Reserve under lights.

Where Have all the Dads Gone?

11:18pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

With seven teams (two Colts) playing on most days at three separate venues the time has come for an appeal for H E L P! In the not so distant past we used to get plenty of dads put up their hands to help, but this year, so far, is an exception. Just for one game we need 1 goal umpire, 1 boundary umpire, 1 (2) water carriers, three people to give Fairest and Best votes at the conclusion of each game, a timekeeper, a scoreboard operator, a manager, statisticians, trainers - the list grows every year. If anybody is interested in helping please see a club official.

Players' Tea and Super Saturday

11:13pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

This Thursday is the Players' Tea and announcements of the A Grade squads and lower grade teams. How will be fit 150 people into the hall, let alone feed them in 30 minutes? A good problem to have, no doubt. With Saturday already earmarked as Ladies' Day the place to be this Saturday will be Gilbert Fraser Reserve with the first game starting at 10.45. It was great to see Life Member Terry Gabriele fill the breech by umpiring in the G Grade. He drove all the way to Warnbro to help out the club. Also, we heard from Bob Coshall in Melbourne who now has our website and is enjoying keeping up to date with all the club news.

Three Wins in Season Opener

11:10pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The club had three wins out of four games in the opening round of 2008. With the A Grade sides traditionally starting a week later than all other grades (so the A Grade Grand Finals can become feature events at the end of the season with every club able to attend) we saw wins to the E Grade, E Reserve and G Grade. Unfortunately, our West Coast Eagles Colts went down to a brilliant University team 9.10 to our 7.7. Congratulations to Tully Misich, Trent Barrett and Calgi on their successes. Next week is season proper - seven teams competing for the first time in the history of the club.
