Masquerade Ball a Huge Success

11:52am July 06, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The club's Masquerade Ball was a huge success with about 140 members and partners enjoying the food, drinks and music. Congratulations to Clint Wiltshire and his helpers for a great effort. President Paul Farrell welcomed the guests and the night got underway. Stars of the evening were James Doogue (he won almost everything), Josh de Buelle (the beau of the Ball), Robert Looby (never seen anybody doing the Pride of Erin before to punk rock music), Travis Miles (another winner on the night), and, of course, all the women. They were absolutely fabulous and made the evening with their poise, clothes, dancing and adding that edge of excitement. Well done all round, the club was the big winner. PICTURES WILL BE DOWNLLOADED LATER.

Another Seven Wins - 3rd Time in a Year

11:45am July 06, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The Maggies had another successful weekend with all seven grades notching victories, for the third time this season. The A Grade defeated Whitfords 11.16 to 5.8 at home. The scoreboard shows an easy victory, but Whitfords were desperate all day and took the game right up to the league leaders. Whitfords were hard at the ball, tough in the clashes and showed great passages of play that belies their position on the A Grade ladder. North were struggling to get into the game early and it was only two late goals into the breeze in the second quarter that gave them a half time lead of just 13 points. Kicking with the breeze in the third term the Maggies dominated but poor kicking at goal kept Whitfords in the game. The football was fast and furious and the weather conditions, strong wind, some rain, hampered the skills. The ground also was muddy in some sections. North help Whitfords to just three points in the final term and scored several goals into a strong breeze. All teams are now in the top five.

Maggies win Five, draw one, lose one

10:14pm June 29, 2008 | Baden Pratt

Congratulations all round this weekend with all teams performing their best after our thinnest selection night of the season. The A Grade fought back from three goals down at the start of the third quarter to win by 35 points against Wembley at Wembley, the A Reserves held Wembly goalless (Wembley are second on the ladder), both E Grade teams won and the G Grade had a great draw. The A colts thrashed Wembley and the Laurie Keene Colts played manfully but were just short against leaders Collegians.

Maggies hold top spot at end of Round 1

11:15pm June 21, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle's A Grade finished the First Round of the competition with an excellent win over University at McGillvray Reserve to hold on to top spot on the ladder. In a unique day six games were played at McGillvray so that the University Club could have all their players and officials at the ground for a Ladies' Day. The first three quarters were hard fought with North clinging to a few points lead at three quarter time. However, with the aid of a strong breeze, the Maggies ran away winning by about five goals. The A Reserve grade also lost as did both E Grade teams, a big surprise. However, the Colts teams both had good wins, the Phil Scott A Colts having a great tussle with University until three quarter time when, again with the wind, the team ran away. The G Grade were playing at night-time at home and these results are not through, nor the official scores from all games.

Maggies go to top of A Grade

1:10am June 08, 2008 | Baden Pratt

IN a great win, North Fremantle's A Grade toppled North Beach at North Beach to go to the top of the ladder. With about five minutes to play North Fremantle had kicked 18 goals to North Beach's eight goals. It was a great team effort with Minervini kicking nine goals, both Halls playing well and other good games from Peter Oliver, Daniel Staff, Daniel Bratovic, Brad Wedgwood. The ruck was led brilliantly by big Coxie playing his first A Grade game and Dickinson, in the backline, continued to show what a wonderful pick-up he is with another solid display. He is a real bonus to our club. The A Reserves lost by a kick but the Phil Scott Colts came from behind to down North Beach.

North Trio in State Side

10:00am June 03, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle had three players chosen in the WA State side that played Tasmania in Tasmania in the weekend - Brad Wedgwood, Dwayne Lake and Daniel Starr. Wedgwood, an all-Australian from the previous year, was named Captain of the side. Former North Fremantle coach, Wayne Langbourne was again appointed coach of the State side. The WA team won by 11 points 11.10 (76) to 9.11 (65). Wedgwood was solid all day, Starr did well in a back pocket and Lake turned the game when he went into the centre after half time. Wll done, everybody. The State side was Ryan Atkinson - Willetton, Jamie Birrell (VC) - Trinity Aquinas, Michael Cox - Whitford, Adam Edwards - Stirling, Scott Harman - Wesley Curtin, Jackson Harwood - North Beach, Jarrad Heller - Collegians, Scott Horsburgh - Wesley Curtin, Bradley Horsman - Wesley Curtin, Blake Ingersole - Willetton, Simon Jones - University, Dwayne Lake - North Fremantle, Adam Lomax - Fremantle CBC, Tyron Miller - Collegians, Daniel O'Sullivan - Trinity Aquinas
Carl Scarfone - Swan View, Brett Stanford - Wesley Curtin, Daniel Starr - North Fremantle, Jacob Towne - Melville, Bradley Wedgwood (C) - North Fremantle , Tom Willday - Trinity Aquinas, Steve Wood (VC) - University.

11:38pm May 24, 2008 | Baden Pratt

As part of Heritage Week in Fremantle the club will hold a special evening next Wednesday, at 7.30pm for all those interested in knowing more about the history of football at Gilbert Fraser Reserve. Former club President Baden Pratt will trace the history of the ground from 1931 when the Tanner family arrived from England to settle in Western Australia. All members, supporters and others interested in Australian football are welcome to attend the event as the club's contribution to Heritage Week in Fremantle. The event is FREE.

A Grade Have Good Win

11:35pm May 24, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The A Grade jumped another hurdle in their endeavour to win the 2008 flag by downing Wesley Curtin at home today. Both teams were level (North on top, Wesley third) on points before the game. WC, coached by former South Fremantle champion Marty Atkins, struggled for most of the game against a North Fremantle side that tackled hard, ran hard and controlled the game. Both Colts teams also had wins - the Phil Scott A Grade Colts beat Wesley Curtin by 11 points to remain undefeated after six rounds. It was WC's second loss for the season. The Laurie Keene Colts, playing in their seventh round. beat a dismal Melville by 14 goals at Troy Park. The Maggie Reserves went down by a kick against Wesley Curtin but the verandah at Gilbert Fraser Reserve read like a Who's Who of North with eight players watching on who could claim to have a spot in either the A Grade or Reserves if fit. At the time of going to Press there were not results available for the three other grades.

Another Clean Sweep for Club - 7 wins

2:11am May 18, 2008 | Baden Pratt

For the second time this season North Fremantle won all seven games. The A Grade had a good win over West Coast Cowan (away), the Reserves fell over the line by a single point, the E Reserves and E Grade had good, hard fought wins against arch rivals CBC, the G Grade had a good win and both colts teams won by 18 goals.

Great A Grade Win Celebrates 150 Years of Football

11:46pm May 10, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The Mighty Maggies won a classic match against arch rival Trinity Aquinas today. NF 11.16 (82) TA 12.3 (75). They came from behind to kick four goals into the breeze in the final quarter and win by seven points. Coach Scott Misich inspired the team with a magnificent three-quarter time address. Good players were Dickinson, Wedgwood, Carter. The club had another six wins with only the A Reserve going down, by seven points, to the ladder leader Trinity Aquinas. The West coast Eagles Phil Scott Colts were again impressive beating TA's by eight goals while the West Coast Eagles Laurie Keene Colts did very well away to Kingsley to win by seven points. Fremantle Docker Shaun McManus tossed the coin before the game and spoke to officials of both teams at a half time afternoon tea.

Anzac Day March Successful

2:13am April 27, 2008 | Baden Pratt

A total of 27 club members took part in the Anzac Day march through the streets of Fremantle. This followed 15 others, mainly Colts, turning out for the Dawn Service at Fremantle's Monument Hill. Life Members Peter Grosser, Simon Melville, Ray Killeen and Baden Pratt marched with the Colts. Club Treasurer Paul Smith was another. The banner containing the names of our World War l (11 players) and World War ll (nine) was carried by Craig Looby and Travis Miles. The club received a huge round of applause from many in the very big crowd. Earlier Wes French and Sam Buhagiar laid a wreathe at the Dawn Service on behalf of the club.

Club Record - Seven Games, Seven Wins

2:07am April 27, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The NFAFC set a club record today with seven wins from seven grades, the first time in the history of the Mighty Maggies. The A Grade travelled to Whitfords for an important clash that was played in fluky wind conditions. North kicked 11 goals 7 points to Whitfords 4 goals 10 points, a 39 point victory. Six players contributed to the goals, led by Ben Carter with four and Cameron Hall with three. The A Reserves held off a strong challenge to win by just three points, but all other grades had big wins, including the two Colts teams.

Maggies Kick Off With a Win

11:55pm April 19, 2008 | Baden Pratt

North Fremantle's A Grade had a very good win in the opening fixture of the season against Wembley at Gilbert Fraser Reserve 12.13 (85) to 7.5 (47). It was a desperately fought game with North Fremantle in front for most of the game until Wembley, in the first 10 minutes of the final quarter, hit the front into a strong breeze. However, the Maggie potential swung into play and the next seven goals were scored with the aid of a strong breeze. There were many good players for the Maggies and it was a great team effort given the challenge Wembley launched at the start of the final quarter. Wembley appeared to be struggling throughout as North Fremantle raced to a six goal to one lead at half time. However, Wembley kicked four goals with the breeze and suddenly there was nothing in the difference. A quick last quarter goal and Wembley were suddenly looming as a big threat. However, the wind was a consequence and North fought back to win.
The A Reserve were not as lucky going down by five goals. The A Colts had a grand win with strength all over the oval. The E grades both won and as this goes to Press the G Grade are locked in battle at Gilbert Fraser Reserve under lights.

Where Have all the Dads Gone?

11:18pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

With seven teams (two Colts) playing on most days at three separate venues the time has come for an appeal for H E L P! In the not so distant past we used to get plenty of dads put up their hands to help, but this year, so far, is an exception. Just for one game we need 1 goal umpire, 1 boundary umpire, 1 (2) water carriers, three people to give Fairest and Best votes at the conclusion of each game, a timekeeper, a scoreboard operator, a manager, statisticians, trainers - the list grows every year. If anybody is interested in helping please see a club official.

Players' Tea and Super Saturday

11:13pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

This Thursday is the Players' Tea and announcements of the A Grade squads and lower grade teams. How will be fit 150 people into the hall, let alone feed them in 30 minutes? A good problem to have, no doubt. With Saturday already earmarked as Ladies' Day the place to be this Saturday will be Gilbert Fraser Reserve with the first game starting at 10.45. It was great to see Life Member Terry Gabriele fill the breech by umpiring in the G Grade. He drove all the way to Warnbro to help out the club. Also, we heard from Bob Coshall in Melbourne who now has our website and is enjoying keeping up to date with all the club news.

Three Wins in Season Opener

11:10pm April 12, 2008 | Baden Pratt

The club had three wins out of four games in the opening round of 2008. With the A Grade sides traditionally starting a week later than all other grades (so the A Grade Grand Finals can become feature events at the end of the season with every club able to attend) we saw wins to the E Grade, E Reserve and G Grade. Unfortunately, our West Coast Eagles Colts went down to a brilliant University team 9.10 to our 7.7. Congratulations to Tully Misich, Trent Barrett and Calgi on their successes. Next week is season proper - seven teams competing for the first time in the history of the club.
